Not how you want to start your weekend.

It's Friday morning, my phone is ringing and I'm half asleep but awake enough to know its not my alarm yet.  I see it's my mom calling and its 5:00am. NOT GOOD> You see, my mom and I talk every morning on the way to work but I knew it was too early for her to be calling.

My dad had started having a seizure 30 minutes earlier, the ambulance had just gotten there and they were able finally stop his seizures.  {side note: he has a history of seizures and a stroke.  They didn't start until I was 16 years old.  He had a bad accident when I was 1.5 years old, had a pretty bad head injury and he was in a coma.  He recovered completely from that, other than a metal plate in his head.  And suddenly when I was 16 he had a seizure with a stroke.  And its happens almost every 1.5 to 2 years.  We are not sure when they are coming but when they happen they aren't good.}

Anyway, the last time it happened was last Christmas Eve/Christmas Day.  And he recovered quite quickly.  This time, his seizures started while he was in bed and just seemed like it was just seizures.  Last time we were really worried, his breathing was really labored and he didn't look good at all.  My mom said it wasn't really like that this time.

So we got to the hospital not too long after the ambulance.  The Doctor came and talked to us, he said he must have aspirated while seizing and this caused fluid to get in his lungs.  Therefore, he was not breathing very well.  They wanted to intubate him so that he could get enough oxygen.  They went ahead and did that, but the small hospital that is near my parents house does not keep intubated patients.  So they life flighted him to the hospital downtown where his Neurologist is located.  He go there and got stable in ICU.  He was doing much better but they were having to keep him sedated so he was able to tolerate the intubation tube better.  It was a long day yesterday, but his CT of his head and chest both came back fine.  No new spots on his brain, so it was just a seizure and no stroke.  He still had some fluid on his lungs but they were giving him IV antibiotics to help with that.  He stayed stable all day yesterday, they kept decreasing the % of breathing the machine was doing and he started breathing on his own more and more.  We left with a good report and hoping that they would get that tube out Saturday.

Well, this morning my mom and I got there right when visiting hours opened up and he looked great... He was really frustrated and wanted that tube OUT! Which I can't blame him.  They had decreased the sedation completely and he had been breathing on his own for almost 20 minutes.  After breathing on his own for 30 minutes they took the intubation tube out AND the NG tube out!!! So we left dad to rest not long after they got him a little more comfortable in the bed.  So so so thankful for God's healing hands.  He is doing so much better already.

Looking forward to another day of healing!

Cassandra I can't imagine how scarey that must have been for you and especially your Mom. Glad to hear he is recovering well! On a different note, I find it funny that you and I both talk to our Mamma's on our way to work every morning. Also, my Daddy broke his neck on my 16th birthday and he now has a metal plate in his neck. Kinda CA-RA-ZAY!
