Rhodes, Greece and stuff

Don't even say it... I know what your thinking! You wish I would slow down with the vacation posts already! You can't even read one without me posting another! :) HA! I know, I've been a little snail like with these posts, but what can I say LIFE happens.

We got back from our trip and started looking at houses again.  Well, low and behold we found the one!  And its been crazy ever since! We hope to close July 2nd and I will have some pics up here as soon after that as I can!

Anyway, I will quit yapping and get to the fabulous Rhodes!

Rhodes is the largest of the Dodecanese Islands, it sits at the sunny southeastern extreme of Greece, just a measly 11 miles from Turkey!  Rhodes is an exotic cultural cocktail of Greek and Turkish with a dash of Crusaders from all over Europe.

We did our own thing again at this port.  First we went to the Palace of the Grand Masters.

When we left there we walked through the Avenue of the Knights (pictured below).

What was the ave of the knights you ask?  The Knights of St. John were divided into seven separate language groups, each one assigned to defending a different section of the town wall. Each group lived in an inn that recreated the home they'd left behind.  To this day, the Spanish order' inn still feels like a slice of Spain, the German order's inn resembles a German fort, and so on.  While the Italian remodel in the early 20th century made the whole lane more uniform, this is still the best place in town to time-travel to the Middle Ages.

I leave you with a few of my favorite snapshots...
